EFT for Weight, Wellness and Emotional Eating Freedom (Guest Writer)

Hi everyone!  Today I am introducing my friend, Lindsay Guttridge as a guest writer on my blog.  Lindsay is an EFT Coach and offers her services in person and through skype.  Her services are open to everyone but her speciality is  for ‘mother and baby who are looking for a gentle and calming approach to parenting.’  Her contact details are at the bottom of her post.  I have also added a short video of Paul McKenna so you have a visual of what EFT looks like.

Lindsay Guttridge:

EFT  (Also known as Emotional Freedom Techniques or ‘Tapping’) is a simple self-help technique that stimulates the body’s own meridian points by gently tapping on them with your fingers. EFT stimulates a natural healing process by allowing the body’s natural energy flow.  It is similar to TFT (Thought Field Therapy) but much more accessible as a self- help technique.  As Wayne W. Dyer says, ‘It’s time to begin to see yourself as a soul with a body rather than a body with a soul.’

Alternative healing methods have been growing in popularity even in mainstream medicine for many years now.  Some GPs in the UK will refer to an acupuncturist or hypnotherapist on the NHS and EFT is now available through my local NHS hospital.  EFT is showing great results in schools in easing anxiety & improving exam results.  Although a relatively new therapy itself, the principles of EFT are based on Eastern medicine such as acupuncture that have been around for several thousand years.   Paul McKenna has been seen on TV for years using EFT to help people with phobias and anxiety disorders.  It is great for adults & children alike.

To explain why EFT differs from other therapies I really like the metaphor of the diamond, the mud, and the nail polish.

We are all born as beautiful shining diamonds.  The diamond represents our authentic self – who we really are.  Over the years we get several knocks and covered in mud and often manure. This represents all our insecurities, self-doubts, & fears that build up throughout our lives. One day we look in the mirror and all we can see is the mud. Dissatisfied with what we see we cover ourselves with nail polish. And the thick layer of nail polish represents the self that we project to the world – who we pretend to be.

We try to make self-improvements but most often we are offered help to paint a thicker and more beautiful nail polish over the stuff we don’t like about ourselves.  Don’t get me wrong, it can sometimes prove effective to use this outside-in approach, but there is another way that is more joyful, effortless and powerful.   So you see our ‘work’ in this game of healing & growing is simply to allow our authentic self to be expressed on a journey of love and acceptance for who we truly are.

An area of growing interest since the film ‘The Secret’ was released is that of ‘The Law of Attraction’.  Well if you’ve tried to create things you desire in your life and it hasn’t paid off you may be feeling a bit skeptical or disappointed. I’d like to suggest to you there is a missing piece to your puzzle. By using EFT you can gradually release your resistant thought patterns that are keeping you stuck in this place, which is not how you wish it to be.  EFT is the most highly effective tool I know for releasing unhelpful emotions and shining the light on our limiting beliefs.

You see you are like a cork bobbing on a lake. Now, imagine holding the cork down under the water- that is what resistance is like. Simply let go and the cork returns to its natural state of being at the surface of the lake.  Like the cork naturally floating on the surface of the lake, it is your natural state to live a life free from hindering resistance.

EFT is a simple to learn self-help technique, but when using it at times it can prove useful to have a qualified facilitator or support person alongside you to when using it at times.   This is especially the case when dealing with more deep-seated issues such as depression, addiction, and my personal passion; emotional eating and weight loss.   Think of these issues being a bit like a garden of weeds.  It can seem overwhelming at first as there are many weeds (or aspects of your issue) to deal with but as you pull out one, two, three weeds you notice a few others come along with them.  Before you know it big handfuls are coming away with ease and you see the soil underneath ready to receive whichever seeds you now choose to sow.  As Louise L Hay says, “When we expand our thinking and beliefs our love flows freely.
